Shockingly expensive & not honest about the contents.

Like other reviewers I was utterly stunned when I opened my bottle of Sandalwood last night. I bought this last year and have kept it in the box in a press away from light. I bought it as I had had a number of pneumonia & heard that it was good for this. I kept it because I didn't quite need it at the time. So when I opened it and it was less than 1/3 full I thought perhaps it had evaporated. I had no idea that there were 2.5ml in the 10ml bottle because it is not made clear anywhere on the bottle or the outside carton- perhaps by way of a sticker - that this is the case. I find it absolutely outrageous that this is the case. I ordered via my aromatherapist so needless to say I did not see the website. I paid about €60 for the 2.5ml & to say that I feel ripped off is an understatement. Other equally reputable companies are not charging anything like this price. AND when the bottles get down to 2.5ml it's almost impossible to get the oil out so I had no chance of getting it out without removing the seal. It is just very underhanded & dishonest to sell this way. Had the carton stated it was 2.5ml in a 10ml bottle I would have returned it for a refund. I am appalled and have just placed my next orders with Do Terra & Tisserand...

Shocked at excessive price for only 2.5ml

1

My husband was sold this in the Exeter Shop - he wasn't even told it was only 2.5mls or he wouldn't have bought it!!!! The price is excessive even compare to other very high quality suppliers, over twice the price. Unfortunately my husband who's carer for 5 disabled family members and was on a very short carer break and is under a grest deal of stress, so he just didn't think to question as it looked like a 10ml bottle of oil. And from Australia, not Indiia!!! Its even more expensive than Rose Otto. I was a professional Aromatherapist for many years so I am aware of the price if oils but this is shocking! But even more so is the lack of verbal information, not what I would expect from Neal's Yard...

Empty?

1

As with other reviewers could not believe how little is in the bottle!! In one response you say the 2.5ml is 50 drops and then in the next you say it is 25 drops. It is also so viscous as to be virtually impossible to dispense. Feeling disappointed!!...

Where is the oil?

Lovely smell but had I realised the bottle was virtually empty - I had to remove the “plastic dropper” to actually get oil I would not have thrown away £48...

Absolute favorite!

5

Beautiful oil that I am cherishing. My favorite way to use NYR sandalwood is in a carrier oil, applied to my wrists. It lasts longer this way than just going into the diffuser and up in the air. The aroma is sweet, grounding, and comforting. Love that it is the end product of an important sustainablility project.

Advice to buyers

5

The complain about lack of scent. Sometimes we can not sense a scent but the others do- it had happened to me few times with various oils/perfumes so I am aware of it. Instead of panicking, it is worth asking friends and other people around how do they like the smell. I was never able to smell much of one particular perfume but I liked the scent so I would be piling it up many times a day as I would only sense it for few minutes if I spray A LOT. But everyone else were able to smell it and had to really suffer my overpowering perfume. So it may be possibility. And also about the price. I have that book which says what oil is more and what one is less costly. It really helps me to realize what is what. NYR products are not diluted and of high quality and that may affect the price.

Stand alone quality

5

Beautiful scent. A luxury buy but the quality is clear. The sandalwood is super sweet and vanillary with rich woody notes. I'm in love with this and using it feels like you're spending gold in a lovely way. I bought this as gift for my mum and she loves it. It barely needs blending with any other oils because of its stand alone gloriousness. The fact that it's sustainably sourced is a mega added bonus and I challenge anyone to find a better quality sandalwood out there.

Where's the smell??

1

Really, really disappointed with this oil. I'm training to be an aromatherapist and this was a considered purchase for me. I knew there was only a small amount of oil in the bottle, so no surprise there. 'My disappointment comes from not being able to smell anything! Seriously... no smell at all. I bought this off a friend who has started selling NYR so didn't want to moan to her, but quite frankly, it's rubbish. Any suggestions, Neals Yard?? Could I have got a dodgy bottle?...Response from NYR on 07.03.18 'Thank you for your review, and I’m sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the scent. Our Sandalwood has a rich and woody aroma. Please do contact your NYR Consultant and they can happily arrange a return for you.'

Not Santalum Album

1

This is oil not elite and not good like fragrance or parfum. I've often been to India and Pakistan, and out of sandalwood they even make food. Sandal in bulk. And in Australia sandalwood more. NYR rushed with such a high price for this oil. This is an ordinary oil of the price category of ylang-ylang. This oil is contraindicated in people with kidney failure of any form. Also it is contraindicated for people with low blood pressure. Categorically. Moreover, the price of 50 pounds for 2.5 ml. this is beyond the bounds of common sense. And even more so, Santalum Album - only essential oil of East-Indian sandalwood that grows in the mountains in the south of India, as well as in the Malay Archipelago, is considered real. West Australian sandalwood is not Santalum Album. Even the West-Indian sandalwood, known as Amiris, is not a related plant for Santalum Album. Oil is extracted from it with absolutely different properties (which does not prevent it along with cedar, gurjun-balsam and copaib-balsam or completely replace it, or dilute the original oil).

One star

Chromatographic analysis reveals absolutely different oils of Santalum Album from Australia/India. East-Indian Sandalwood: Cis alfa santalol 48%, alfa bisabolol 0 %, Epi beta santanol 6% Australian Sandalwood: Cis alfa santalol 18%, alfa bisabolol 7%, Epi beta santanol 3 % Also Trans alfa bergamottol 4 % (East-Indian Sandalwood) and 6 % (Australian Sandalwood) Trans farnesol contains only Australian Sandalwood (7%). These are completely different oils and only marketing and money craving cause people to deceive other people. a real therapeutic and dermatological effect has only East-Indian sandalwood, Australian Sandalwood just used in perfumery. Australian oil is inferior to the East India for medicinal purposes. I hope that NYR I hope that you will not ignore my messages to this oil. People should understand that when they buy Australian Sandalwood, they buy a completely different oil in terms of chemical composition. The expensiveness of Australian sandalwood is due to its use in the perfumes of Yves Saint Laurent and Dior. That's why this price. And the Australian sandalwood is called Santalum Spicatum. In all respects Melissa's oil is approaching the oil of the rose, people know little about it, we are here in Ukraine in the summer to prepare salad from it and grow Melissa everywhere in Ukraine. By its cosmetic and psycho-emotional actions on a person, it is incomparable.
